Complete guide: Unit Price

Updated:

The cheapest container does not always offer the best value by quantity. Compare products by dividing the total price by their contents in a common unit. A 500 g package at 3 costs 6 per kilogram, while a 1 kg package at 5 costs 5 per kilogram.

Compare grams with kilograms and milliliters with liters. For multipacks, enter each container's contents and the number of containers in the offer; the price is for the whole pack. For countable items, contents means the number of items per container.

Percentage savings compare normalized prices, not package totals. Only compare products within the same measurement category and of comparable quality. A lower price per kilogram may not compensate for a package you cannot finish before it expires.

How it works

  1. 1Total contents = contents per container × number of containers.
  2. 2We convert to kg, L or items and divide the price by total contents.
