Complete guide: Shared Expenses
Updated:
When one person pays for accommodation and another for food, splitting only the last receipt is not enough. Add up each participant's payments for the same group of expenses. The calculator finds the total, each person's share and their balance.
With an equal split, everyone covers the same share. In a weighted split, someone with two shares covers twice as much as someone with one; consumption amounts can serve as proportional weights. Someone with zero shares owes no expenses but can recover money they advanced.
A positive balance means the person should receive money; a negative balance means they should pay. Suggested transfers settle these balances in the selected currency, with cent adjustments. All payments must use that currency and belong to the same group; there is no currency conversion.
How it works
- 1Total = sum of payments; individual share = total × weight ÷ sum of weights.
- 2Balance = paid − individual share; debtors pay those who advanced money.
