Complete guide: Scientific Calculator
Updated:
This scientific calculator covers the essential functions for students and professionals: trigonometry (sine, cosine, tangent and their inverses), natural and base-10 logarithms, powers, square roots, factorials and the constants π and e.
The DEG/RAD button switches between degrees and radians for trigonometric functions. In DEG mode, sin(90) = 1; in RAD mode, sin(π/2) = 1. Check the mode before calculating to avoid unexpected results.
You can chain operations with parentheses and the correct order of operations: powers are evaluated before multiplications, and those before additions. For example, 2 + 3 × 2² = 14.
How it works
- 1Choose DEG (degrees) or RAD (radians) for your trigonometric calculation.
- 2Use the sin, cos, tan, ln, log, √, x², xʸ, n! and 1/x functions.
- 3Press = to evaluate respecting the order of operations.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a square root?
Press √, enter the number and close the parenthesis: √(16) = 4. For other roots use powers: the cube root of 27 is 27^(1/3).
What is the difference between ln and log?
ln is the natural logarithm (base e) and log is the base-10 logarithm.
How do I calculate powers?
Use xʸ: for example 2^10 = 1024. The x² button squares directly.
