Complete guide: Tips & Bill Split
Updated:
A tip is a percentage of the selected base. A bill of 100 with a 15% tip totals 115. The percentage depends on local customs and service; the starting value is an editable example.
Enter the bill including tax. If you prefer tipping before tax, enter the tax amount already included in the bill. For example, a bill of 110 with 10 in tax has a tipping base of 100.
The total is split equally. When it cannot be divided evenly into cents, some people pay one cent more so payments add up exactly. If people consumed different amounts, use the shared expenses calculator with weighted shares.
How it works
- 1Tip = selected base × percentage/100; total = bill + tip.
- 2We divide the total and distribute remaining cents among people.
Frequently asked questions
Does the bill include tax?
Yes. The tax field is the tax already included, not an extra charge.
What if the bill does not split evenly?
We distribute the remaining cents: for 10 split among 3, one pays 3.34 and two pay 3.33.
What if a service charge is already included?
Check the bill before adding another tip. You can set the percentage to zero.
